This is a pen and ink drawing of a traditional street corner in Korea. The perspective creates a sense of space. The monochromatic colors allow viewers to take in the entire composition and not be distracted by one thing. This space feels like a small alleyway, drawing you in with the nostalgic feeling of past days. Through the piece, I wanted to convey timelessness or a sense of being stuck in time, with no hints of seasons or hours. This work also conveys a sense of expectation, making viewers wonder what is around the corner or who may be walking into view soon.
Korea is known to be one of the most technologically advanced countries, but in the cracks and crevices of the towering city, you can still find Korea’s history and small-town lifestyle. Family owned stores, restaurants, and bookstores/comic book rooms are still prevalent in Seoul’s narrow streets.
